Washington, DC – Friday, September 11, 2009 – The Second Annual Buffalo Battle, a culinary competition and
fundraiser, will be held Sunday, September 27, 2009 from 1:00pm – 5:00pm in the parking lot adjacent to Old Glory,
on the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and M Street, NW, in Georgetown. The event is in support of the D.C. Firefighters Burn
Foundation, and its efforts to prevent burns and improve the quality of life for burn survivors through programs, education and
research at Washington Hospital Center, as well as the Children’s Burn Camp Program.
Capital Restaurant Concepts will host the event and feature two of its restaurants, J. Paul’s and Old Glory BBQ, in a culinary cook-off, battling to determine which restaurant and Chef has the best wings in Georgetown. Executive Chef Tom Crenshaw of J. Paul’s Georgetown and Executive Chef Richard Brooks of Old Glory BBQ will battle it out in a series of competitions throughout the day to determine whose Buffalo is best. Guest judges will determine the winners of the 4 rounds, to include Classic, Jim Beam Red Stag Signature, "4 Alarm" Grill, and People’s Choice Wings. An online recipe contest is being held leading up to the event to select a battling Guest Chef to compete against the Battle Champion in the final round.
The DCFF Burn Foundation was founded by active and retired Washington, D.C. Firefighters to assist in the recovery and rehabilitation of injured Firefighters and burn patients in the D.C. Metropolitan Area. The event will be instrumental in raising awareness and support of the D.C. Firefighters Burn Foundation’s efforts in improving lives of those in the community forever changed by having been burned.
"We [DCFF Burn Foundation] are excited to have partnered with Capital Restaurant Concepts and their restaurants, J. Paul’s and Old Glory BBQ, for this event," says D.C. Firefighter and President of the DCFF Burn Foundation, Jason Woods. "The funds raised will forever change the lives of burn survivors," states Woods, “and will enable us [DCFF Burn Foundation] to provide greater funding for the Burn Center at Washington Hospital Center, as well as many other services, programs, research and camps, for children and adults alike."
J. Paul’s and Old Glory BBQ will feature food and beverage specials during the month of September, with $1 from features to benefit the D.C. Firefighters Burn Foundation. A Pre-Battle Happy Hour will be hosted by J. Paul’s on Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 5:00-7:00 pm, and at Old Glory BBQ on Thursday, September 24, 2009 from 5:00-7:00 pm, offering wing and beverage specials for all D.C.
